Engineer’s Personal Loss Inspires Security Innovation
The technology originated when French entrepreneur Sébastien Buonomo nearly lost his emotionally priceless Rolex GMT-Master II, a gift from his late brother. Partnering with master watchmaker Bruno Herbert, they engineered a stainless steel clasp with a key-operated micro-lock that immobilizes the bracelet when secured.
“Without the key, thieves would need to take your entire arm to steal the watch,” explains Buonomo. The Swiss-made device also prevents accidental loss during aquatic activities, addressing two major concerns for luxury watch wearers.
Premium Protection at a Price
Currently compatible with Airking, DateJust, and Daytona models, the €680 system requires professional installation or technical skill. Buyers receive a specialized toolkit including:
- Bergeon SA precision instruments
- Thread-locking compound
- Three backup keys with secure carrying case
While the cost represents just 4.5% of a Daytona’s retail value, some users question the practicality. “Forgetting your keys while traveling could leave you permanently locked into your watch,” notes one industry observer.
Orkos offers free professional installation through partner watchmakers, though this requires scheduling appointments. The company’s Instagram (@orkos_watchparts) showcases successful installations, with early adopters praising the added security during high-risk travel.
