Redmi Watch Move: A Solid Budget Smartwatch

by Cindy

The wearable market in India has seen significant evolution over the last few years, prompting brands to re-evaluate their strategies and offerings. One such product is the new Redmi Watch Move, priced under Rs 2,000, which promises features like an AMOLED display, long battery life, and reliable health trackers. But does it deliver on its promises?

Design and Comfort: A Familiar Look

At first glance, the Redmi Watch Move bears a striking resemblance to the Apple Watch SE with its large display, square design, and crown dial. Weighing in at around 39 grams with the strap, the watch is slightly heavier than expected but comfortable for all-day wear, including overnight. After weeks of use, the only issue was minor wrist marks when the strap was worn too tight.

The strap is now made of TPU material, replacing the previous silicone-based design. While comfortable, the strap’s internal hook could be redesigned for better skin contact, as we would prefer the hook to be on the outside.

Display: Vibrant and Premium

The Redmi Watch Move boasts a 1.85-inch AMOLED display that features an Always-on display option. The screen is bright even in direct sunlight and offers a size that allows for clear visibility of notifications. The 2.5D curved glass provides a premium feel, making the watch visually appealing and comfortable to wear.

Health and Fitness Tracking: Reliable but Not Perfect

For a budget wearable, the Redmi Watch Move offers decent health and fitness tracking features, including step counting and sleep monitoring. The step counter is slightly inaccurate, off by about 10-15 steps, but this discrepancy is not major. On the other hand, the sleep monitoring tool impresses with its detailed insights into sleep quality, duration, and naps taken.

The watch features a crown dial that serves dual purposes: long-pressing it activates the assistant, which can communicate in Hindi, and rotating it navigates the settings and apps. The haptic feedback adds a premium touch to the experience.

The Mi Fitness app, which pairs with the watch, is user-friendly and allows easy tracking of health and fitness metrics. While it offers useful data, users should not rely on it for medical advice.

Battery Life: Strong Performance

Redmi claims the Watch Move can last up to 14 days on basic usage. In our tests, we pushed the device further by enabling all power-hungry features. Even then, the 300mAh battery lasted around seven days, which dropped to five days with Always-on Display activated. This performance is impressive for a device in this price range, and it can be fully charged in just over an hour with the included charging unit.

Conclusion

The Redmi Watch Move is a solid wearable that checks all the boxes for a budget-friendly device. It offers essential health and fitness tracking, an attractive AMOLED display, reliable battery life, and a smooth operating system. For those looking for a functional smartwatch without breaking the bank, the Redmi Watch Move delivers a lot for its price.
