Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 8 and Galaxy Watch 8 Classic are set to debut alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 at the company’s summer Unpacked event. While leaks have already revealed much about the new foldables, details about the smartwatches are now emerging—including disappointing news about charging speeds.
Recent listings on China’s 3C certification platform confirm that both models will support LTE connectivity, a standard feature in modern wearables. However, the certification also reveals that the charging speeds remain unchanged from last year’s Galaxy Watch 7, capping at 10W. This lack of improvement may disappoint users hoping for faster power-ups.
Beyond charging, the watches are expected to include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.3, GNSS, NFC, and wireless charging—features that have become commonplace in premium smartwatches.
Design Overhaul Rumored
Speculation suggests Samsung may abandon its traditional circular design for a “squircle” shape—a rounded square with a circular display. This aesthetic shift would align the Galaxy Watch 8 series more closely with last year’s Galaxy Watch Ultra rather than Samsung’s classic watch lineup.
The Galaxy Watch 8 and Watch 8 Classic are expected to launch in early July, positioning them as direct competitors to Apple’s upcoming Series 10, which debuted in September 2023. With charging speeds unchanged, Samsung may rely on design and software enhancements to stand out in the crowded smartwatch market.
