Sotheby’s will hold the largest Breguet watch auction in over three decades this November, marking the 250th anniversary of the legendary Parisian watchmaker. The Geneva event, titled A Celebration of Breguet’s 250th Anniversary, will feature an unparalleled selection of timepieces highlighting Abraham-Louis Breguet’s revolutionary contributions to horology.
Scheduled for 9 November 2025, the auction honors Breguet’s enduring influence on watchmaking. Revered as the “Watchmaker of Kings and the King of Watchmakers,” Breguet pioneered innovations such as the tourbillon movement and automatic winding mechanism—cornerstones of modern watchmaking. His creations graced the wrists of European royalty, including Marie-Antoinette, Napoleon Bonaparte, and King George IV.
Among the highlights is an 1827 Perpétuelle à Tact Watch, crafted for King George IV, featuring a date, power reserve, and up-and-down indication. Its intricate design embodies Breguet’s technical brilliance and artistic vision.
Gregory Kissling, CEO of Breguet, praised the auction as a tribute to the brand’s heritage: “This event celebrates not just timepieces, but the genius of Abraham-Louis Breguet—his legacy of innovation and elegance.”
Curated in collaboration with Montres Breguet SA and Emmanuel Breguet, the founder’s descendant, the sale will include pocket watches, wristwatches, and clocks. Daryn Schnipper, Sotheby’s Watches Chairman Emeritus, emphasized Breguet’s unmatched impact: “He shaped horological history, and this auction is a fitting homage.”
The auction coincides with Sotheby’s Luxury Sales and its biannual Important Watches event. Further details will be announced in late spring.
