Tiffany & Co. continues to draw inspiration from the archives of legendary French designer Jean Schlumberger, this time reimagining his iconic rope motif in a new collection of diamond-set watches. The release follows the brand’s recent Blue Book high jewelry collection, which also paid homage to Schlumberger’s legacy.
Schlumberger, who joined Tiffany in the mid-20th century, created some of the jeweler’s most enduring designs. His rope motif, first introduced around 1956, now takes center stage in this latest horological offering. The collection underscores Schlumberger’s lasting influence, particularly since Tiffany’s acquisition by LVMH in 2019.
Timeless Aesthetics with a Contemporary Twist
The new Rope watches feature two concentric twists of 18-karat yellow gold encircling the case and dial, accented by a band of pavé diamonds. Available in 27 mm and 33 mm sizes, the watches offer dial options in mother-of-pearl or glossy black.
The smaller model is set with 38 diamonds (approximately 0.52 carats), while the larger version boasts 39 diamonds (0.9 carats). A playful touch—Schlumberger’s signature whimsy—is evident in the rope-shaped minute hand, crafted entirely in yellow gold.
Solar-Powered Movement Marks a First for Tiffany
A standout feature of the collection is its movement: Tiffany’s first solar-powered caliber, developed in collaboration with Swiss movement specialist La Joux-Perret. The technology ensures a power reserve of up to eight months when fully charged, requiring just two minutes of sunlight for a full charge. Even under overcast skies, the watch continues to harness light efficiently.
