Apple is marking Global Running Day on June 4 with a special incentive for Apple Watch users—a digital award for logging a run of at least 3.1 miles. The commemorative badge will appear in the Awards section of the Fitness app and includes animated stickers for sharing via iMessages.
New Fitness+ Content and Runner-Focused Yoga Program
To further celebrate, Apple Fitness+ is rolling out fresh Time to Run episodes showcasing scenic routes in global destinations like Central Park, Rio de Janeiro, Rome, and Edinburgh. Starting June 2, runners can virtually explore these iconic locations with curated playlists, coaching tips, and immersive visuals.
Additionally, Apple has partnered with ultramarathon champion Scott Jurek for a new Yoga for Runners series. The six 10-minute sessions focus on improving running posture, balance, and mobility—ideal for pre- or post-run routines.
Running’s Popularity and Apple Watch’s Supportive Features
Running remains one of the most accessible forms of exercise, with approximately 50 million runners and joggers in the U.S. alone, according to Statista. However, beginners often find it daunting.
The Apple Watch offers robust tools to support runners at all levels:
- Custom Workouts for interval training with mid-run alerts
- Pacer to help maintain a target speed
- Automatic Track Detection for accurate lap tracking on standard outdoor tracks
- Race Route to compare performance on repeated courses
- Training Load to assess workout intensity against recent activity data
These features aim to make running more approachable while helping users track progress and avoid overexertion.
Global Running Day serves as a reminder of running’s universal appeal—and with Apple’s latest incentives, there’s never been a better time to hit the pavement.
