Closing your Apple Watch activity rings may significantly improve your well-being, according to new findings from the Apple Heart and Movement Study. The analysis, based on data from over 140,000 participants, revealed strong correlations between regular ring closures and better sleep, heart health, and mental wellness.
Those who consistently closed their rings were 48% less likely to experience frequent nighttime awakenings, 73% less likely to have an elevated resting heart rate, and 57% less likely to report high stress levels.
Smartwatches Encourage Healthier Habits
While the benefits of exercise on sleep, heart function, and stress are well-documented, Apple Watch’s activity rings provide tangible motivation through reminders and incentives. The study’s release coincides with the device’s 10th anniversary on April 24, spotlighting its role in promoting fitness.
To celebrate the milestone, Apple is offering users a special Global Close Your Rings Day award. By completing all three rings—Move, Exercise, and Stand—participants can earn a limited-edition digital badge, 10 animated stickers for Messages, and an exclusive pin available at Apple Stores.
A Decade of Fitness Innovation
“Apple Watch revolutionized how people track and engage with their health. A decade ago, we introduced activity rings, and today, the watch offers a comprehensive suite of features to empower users,” said Jeff Williams, Apple’s chief operating officer.
Users are encouraged to share their achievements on social media using #CloseYourRings, whether through cycling, walking, swimming, or other activities. The initiative underscores Apple’s ongoing commitment to fostering healthier lifestyles through technology.
