The reborn Daniel Roth brand unveiled its second contemporary timepiece, the Extra Plat Souscription, during this year’s LVMH Watch Week. True to its name, the ultra-thin watch draws inspiration from Roth’s 1991 design—a refined two-handed dress watch featuring his signature double-ellipse case adorned with gadroons, engineered for exceptional wrist comfort.
Craftsmanship Meets Heritage
Encased in yellow gold, the watch measures 38.6 x 35.5mm with a slender profile of just 7.7mm, complemented by classic straight lugs. The dial showcases a mesmerizing Clous de Paris guilloché pattern, meticulously applied by artisans at La Fabrique du Temps using a 1930s straight-line engine-turning machine. This intricate backdrop highlights a chapter ring with blue Roman numerals, mirroring the hue of the elegant hour and minute hands. A delicate filigree border, crafted on an 1800s-era machine, completes the dial’s understated sophistication.
Precision Movement with Timeless Finishes
Powering the Extra Plat Souscription is the newly developed DR002 hand-wound movement, designed to fit seamlessly within the case’s distinctive shape. Though hidden behind a solid caseback, the movement exemplifies haute horlogerie with beveled bridges and traditional finishing. Developed and assembled at La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton in Meyrin, Switzerland, it operates at 4 Hz and delivers a robust 65-hour power reserve.
