The highly anticipated three-story Rolex boutique on London’s Old Bond Street, originally slated to open last year, has encountered further delays and is now unlikely to welcome customers until 2025, according to a report by Watchpro.
The Watches of Switzerland Group first announced plans in 2022 to relocate the existing 900-square-foot Rolex boutique on Bond Street to a grand 7,200-square-foot space in a historic corner property previously occupied by Gucci. However, construction setbacks have pushed back the ribbon-cutting ceremony twice.
Construction Challenges and Historic Setting
Initial delays arose when Gucci’s relocation to New Bond Street took longer than expected, stalling the start of construction. Now, unforeseen issues with the building’s basement have further extended the timeline. Watches of Switzerland CEO Brian Duffy confirmed in a recent conference call that the project’s completion has been postponed to next year.
Old Bond Street, a prestigious shopping destination since the 18th century, remains a key hub for luxury brands. The new Rolex flagship will join other elite watchmakers, including Jaeger-LeCoultre, Vacheron Constantin, and A. Lange & Söhne, reinforcing the area’s status as a horological hotspot.
A Flagship Worth the Wait
Designed in collaboration with Rolex, the expansive showroom will emphasize client hospitality and showcase the brand’s storied heritage. The Watches of Switzerland Group, which has represented Rolex on Bond Street since the mid-1980s, operates seven other branded boutiques across the U.K. and U.S., including a recently refurbished location in Las Vegas’s Wynn Resort.
“We have long sought a larger space to present the Rolex brand as it deserves,” Duffy said in a 2022 statement. “This flagship boutique, in the city where Rolex was born, will be a landmark achievement.”
Until the new boutique opens, Rolex’s presence on London’s most prestigious shopping street remains minimal, leaving luxury watch enthusiasts eagerly awaiting its debut.
