Matheus Cunha appears to have signalled the end of his tenure at Wolverhampton Wanderers by gifting luxury Rolex watches to two of his teammates, amid reports that the Brazilian forward is poised to join Manchester United in a £62.5 million deal.
Cunha has reportedly agreed to a five-year contract with the option of a further year at Old Trafford and could undergo a medical in Manchester later this week, pending a formal approach from United to Wolves. Despite the agreement, Manchester United have yet to activate the transfer clause in Cunha’s contract, which requires payment in three instalments of £20.85 million over two years.
In a touching farewell gesture, Cunha gifted Rolex watches to his fellow Brazilian teammates Joao Gomes and Andre. On social media, Cunha expressed his gratitude and affection in a message to Gomes: “Thank you for all the moments, you will always be in my heart. I will always be in love with you and your family. I love you.”
Gomes shared an image of the Rolex box alongside Cunha’s heartfelt note, commenting, “I promised we wouldn’t be relegated and he promised a Rolex!! A man of his word. This is worth a lot!! It is more valuable than any trophy or title—a sincere friendship. I love you, my big friend. Thanks for everything, my bro.”
He also posted a video capturing Andre’s surprise upon receiving his Rolex in the Wolves changing room, followed by a warm embrace with Cunha. Gomes added, “He got involved in our agreement and nothing is fairer than receiving one too. @andre I love you brother.”
Andre shared a photo of himself warming up alongside Cunha during the season, writing, “I’m sure you will shine wherever you go, my friend. May God bless you and your family wherever you go.”
Following the close of the season, Cunha publicly thanked Wolves supporters, reflecting on his time at the club: “Wolves, what can I say to you? What an incredible season. We didn’t get to where you deserve to be, but we did everything we could to make you proud. I love these guys. Individually, it was the best season of my life. All of this was only possible because of all the dedication and love I have for this club.”
Highlighting his personal achievements, Cunha added, “I became the Brazilian with the most goals in a Premier League season, alongside Roberto Firmino and Gabriel Martinelli. I made mistakes and got things right, but always because I lived this club so much. All I ever wanted was to do the impossible for Wolves. Another one is over. Thank you all for all the affection.”
Manchester United aim to finalize the transfer of the 25-year-old attacker by the end of May, setting the stage for an active summer transfer window at Old Trafford. Cunha is expected to inherit the iconic No.10 jersey, currently worn by Marcus Rashford, who is likely to depart following a loan spell at Aston Villa.
United are also pursuing Brentford’s Bryan Mbuemo, with the Premier League club open to offers for the 25-year-old winger, who is valued at around £50 million plus add-ons. Meanwhile, in the hunt for a centre-forward, Manchester United face competition from Chelsea for Ipswich striker Liam Delap, whose release clause stands at £30 million.
