Apple introduced its 10th-generation smartwatch, the Apple Watch Series 10, during Monday’s event, showcasing a 40% brighter wide-angle OLED screen that surpasses the display size of the Apple Watch Ultra. Measuring just 9.7 millimeters thick, the new model is 10% thinner and lighter than its predecessor, the Series 9.
The expanded screen—the largest ever on an Apple Watch—allows for an additional line of text, improving readability for emails and messages. Despite slightly larger case sizes (42mm and 46mm), the Series 10 remains compatible with straps from the Series 9 and earlier models, while new bands will also work with older devices.
Enhanced Performance and Faster Charging
Powered by Apple’s new S10 SiP (System in Package) with a four-core neural engine, the Series 10 features a polished aluminum finish and a redesigned metal back that integrates antennas. Maintaining a 50-meter water resistance rating, the smartwatch includes a larger charging coil for quicker power-ups—reaching 80% battery in just 30 minutes—while offering up to 18 hours of battery life.
Breakthrough Sleep Apnea Detection
Pending FDA approval, the Series 10 will be the first Apple Watch to detect sleep apnea using its accelerometer to monitor breathing patterns during sleep. If irregularities are detected, users will receive an alert and a detailed report to share with healthcare providers for further evaluation.
Improved Audio and Dive Tracking
Though the Series 10’s speakers are smaller to conserve battery, Apple claims no loss in sound quality. For the first time, users can play music and podcasts directly from the watch, rather than solely using it for calls.
Additionally, a built-in depth sensor and temperature sensor provide real-time data for snorkelers and divers, while watchOS 11 introduces the Tides app and enhanced paddling metrics for kayakers.
Pricing and Availability
Available in polished aluminum (including a new jet black option) and lightweight titanium finishes, the Series 10 starts at 499 (cellular). The titanium model begins at $699, with preorders opening today and general availability.
watchOS 11 Expands Fitness Capabilities
The new smartwatch ships with watchOS 11, featuring a Vitals app, Training Load measurements, and the ability to pause Activity Rings—allowing users to take rest days without breaking streaks.
A Decade of Evolution
Since its debut nearly 10 years ago, the Apple Watch has transitioned from a fashion-forward iPhone accessory to a critical health and fitness tool. The Series 10 follows last year’s Series 9, which introduced a double-tap gesture and brighter display, while the Series 8 brought temperature sensing and Crash Detection alongside the rugged Apple Watch Ultra.
With each iteration, Apple continues to refine its wearable, positioning it as a leader in both smart technology and personal health innovation.
