Just after midnight, Watches & Wonders 2025 kicked off with Rolex once again taking center stage. The Swiss luxury watchmaker unveiled its highly anticipated Oyster Perpetual Land-Dweller, a new collection poised to redefine the integrated sports watch category.
First hinted at through stock imagery leaks earlier this year, the Land-Dweller was later teased by tennis legend Roger Federer on Instagram before its official launch today. The debut marks Rolex’s most significant release in recent years, signaling a strategic move into the competitive integrated sports watch market.
Design Inspired by Heritage, Refined for Modernity
Available in 36mm and 40mm case sizes—mirroring the proportions of the Datejust and Day-Date—the Land-Dweller draws clear inspiration from vintage Rolex models like the Oysterquartz Datejust of the 1970s. Its integrated case and bracelet design, along with a fluted bezel and Jubilee-style bracelet, create a seamless aesthetic that blends retro charm with contemporary sophistication.
The case features a predominantly brushed finish, accented by polished edges on the bezel and bracelet links. Buyers can choose between White Rolesor (steel with white gold), Everose Gold, and platinum variants. The platinum model stands out with a signature blue dial, while other versions come in white with a honeycomb motif—a subtle nod to the watch’s “land-dwelling” theme.
A Dial That Balances Familiarity and Innovation
The Land-Dweller’s dial retains classic Rolex elements, including luminescent Arabic and baton hour markers, a crown logo at 12 o’clock, and a Cyclops date window at 3 o’clock. However, it introduces fresh details like flush lume (rather than applied) and a skeletonized seconds hand counterweight.
A New High-Performance Movement
Powering the Land-Dweller is the Rolex Calibre 7135, a groundbreaking in-house movement boasting a 5Hz frequency—the fastest in the brand’s lineup. With a 66-hour power reserve and precision rated at -2/+2 seconds per day, the self-winding mechanism incorporates cutting-edge innovations such as:
- A Syloxi silicon hairspring with patented geometry
- Paraflex shock absorbers for durability
- Instantaneous date and hacking seconds functions
Rolex has filed 16 patents for the movement, particularly focusing on its escapement and oscillator. For the first time since the 2023 Cosmograph Daytona, the brand includes a sapphire exhibition caseback, revealing the movement’s Geneva stripes and partially skeletonized gold rotor.
