Snapchat has introduced a new Apple Watch app, allowing users to preview incoming messages and respond directly from their wrists. While the app doesn’t support photo snapping—the platform’s signature feature—it provides a streamlined way to stay connected without pulling out an iPhone.
The app enables users to view incoming messages and reply using the Apple Watch’s tiny keyboard, handwritten scribbles, or voice dictation, which converts speech to text. This functionality builds on existing iPhone notification mirroring but integrates more seamlessly with the wearable.
Expanding Snapchat Across Devices
In a blog post, Snapchat emphasized its commitment to accessibility across multiple devices. “The number of devices we use daily has grown,” the company stated. “Our community already enjoys Snapchat on tablets, web, and mobile—now we’re extending that to wearables.”
A Rare Addition in a Declining Market
The launch is notable as many major apps have discontinued Apple Watch support in recent years. Instagram, Slack, Lyft, Uber, Amazon, Trello, and Evernote have all removed their Apple Watch apps, making Snapchat’s move a rare expansion in a shrinking ecosystem.
While the app offers limited functionality compared to the full mobile experience, it provides a convenient way for users to stay engaged with messages on the go.
