For decades, enthusiasts and historians have chronicled Rolex’s legacy—from broad brand histories to deep dives into specific models like the Explorer. Yet the Swiss watchmaker itself has remained largely silent, avoiding official narratives. That changes this October with the release of Oyster Perpetual Submariner – The Watch that Unlocked the Deep, the first authorized history of the Submariner and Rolex’s debut publication.
Acclaimed Author and Unprecedented Access
Penned by Nicholas Foulkes, a respected horological writer known for works on Patek Philippe and other luxury brands, the 252-page volume blends archival imagery with new photography. It traces the Submariner’s evolution from early prototypes to its status as perhaps the most iconic dive watch ever made, spotlighting technical breakthroughs and the adventurers who wore it. Editions will be available in English and French.
Limited Silk-Bound Edition and Global Release
The hardback standard edition (priced at £89) launches October 1 via online retailers. Collectors can also pre-order a silk-bound limited edition (£100) exclusively through WallpaperSTORE* between September 16 and 19.
A New Chapter for Rolex Transparency
The book signals a shift for the traditionally secretive brand, with Rolex confirming it’s the first in a planned series exploring its legendary collections. This move toward greater openness could redefine how the company engages with its global audience.
