Watches and Wonders Geneva has cemented its status as the luxury watch industry’s most prestigious event, drawing global attention with its 2025 showcase. The fair, held from April 1 to April 7, featured over 50 leading brands unveiling their latest innovations. The first four days were reserved for industry professionals and journalists, while the final three welcomed the public.
Record-Breaking Timepieces Steal the Spotlight
Among the standout releases, Rolex’s Land-Dweller dominated headlines with its retro-inspired integrated bracelet and groundbreaking DynaPulse escapement. The event also saw three world records shattered:
- Ulysse Nardin’s Diver [AIR] claimed the title of the world’s lightest dive watch at just 52 grams.
- Bulgari’s Octo Finissimo Ultra Tourbillon became the thinnest tourbillon watch ever, measuring a mere 1.85mm.
- Vacheron Constantin’s Les Cabinotiers Solaria stunned with 41 complications, including an astronomical function that tracks celestial events.
How to Attend and Notable Absences
Admission required advance online ticket purchases, with single-day passes ranging from 77 (weekend days). Multi-day passes offered a 15% discount.
Despite its dominance, Watches and Wonders still excludes several major brands, including Swatch Group’s Omega, Longines, and Blancpain, as well as Breitling, Richard Mille, and Audemars Piguet.
The Decline of Baselworld and Rise of Watches & Wonders
Once the industry’s leading fair, Baselworld collapsed after the 2020 pandemic cancellations, exacerbated by exhibitor dissatisfaction. Key players like Rolex and Patek Philippe shifted to SIHH (Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie), which later evolved into Watches & Wonders Geneva.
Baselworld’s attempts to reinvent itself—first as a digital platform, then as HourUniverse—failed to regain traction. Its official website now states, “No further editions of Baselworld are planned.”
