Swiss watchmaker Girard-Perregaux and British luxury car manufacturer Aston Martin have unveiled their sixth collaborative timepiece, the Laureato Chronograph Aston Martin Edition, featuring a striking dial crafted from automotive paint. The latest iteration, housed in lightweight titanium, may become the most sought-after model yet.
A Dial Inspired by Automotive Excellence
The watch’s standout feature is its iridescent dial, which shifts between sea green and caramel tones depending on lighting. Achieving this effect required 15 layers of automotive paint—a complex process given the precision needed for watch components. Unlike car panels, dials demand ultra-thin coatings, necessitating a meticulous filtration method to eliminate imperfections.
Design nods to Aston Martin include the seconds hand, shaped to resemble the air intakes on the iconic DB4. Yet, branding remains discreet: the Aston Martin logo appears only on the sapphire caseback.
A Subtler Approach to Luxury
Compared to previous collaborations—such as the bold Neo Bridges Aston Martin Edition or the Green Ceramic Laureato—this model leans into versatility. The titanium case and bracelet offer everyday wearability while retaining enough visual intrigue to spark conversation.
Celebrating 50 Years of the Laureato
The Laureato, introduced in 1975, predates Patek Philippe’s Nautilus by a year. As the collection marks its 50th anniversary, Girard-Perregaux’s new managing director, Marc Michel-Amadry, hints at more commemorative releases.
Michel-Amadry, a longtime admirer of the brand, recalls purchasing a Girard-Perregaux World Timer as his first luxury watch. His personal connection fuels his vision for the brand’s future—one that honors heritage while innovating.
With its blend of horological precision and automotive flair, the Laureato Chronograph Aston Martin Edition sets the stage for what’s next.
