Garmin has launched its newest Forerunner watches, the 570 and 970, catering to athletes who prioritize performance data over budget concerns. Packed with upgraded features, these models continue the brand’s tradition of high-quality running wearables—though their increased price tags may give some buyers pause.
Brighter Screens and Rugged Designs
The Forerunner 570 and 970 now feature Garmin’s brightest AMOLED displays to date, ensuring visibility even in direct sunlight. The 570 offers a streamlined design with 42mm or 47mm case options and new color combinations. Meanwhile, the 970 steps up with premium materials, including a sapphire lens, titanium bezel, and built-in mapping for urban and trail navigation.
Advanced Metrics for Data-Driven Training
Both watches deliver an array of performance-tracking tools, such as running economy analysis, skin temperature monitoring, and “step speed loss” measurements. The Garmin Triathlon Coach feature provides personalized training plans based on sleep and recovery data, while an evening report assesses readiness for the next workout.
The 970 goes further with ECG functionality, a built-in flashlight, and race time predictions. It also includes a heart rate-based analysis of stride efficiency, offering deeper insights into performance degradation during runs.
Price Hikes Spark Debate
Despite the enhancements, the new models come at a steeper cost. The Forerunner 570 starts at 750 (£630)—approximately $100 more than their predecessors. Pre-orders open on May 21, but the value of the added features remains a point of contention among fitness enthusiasts.
While Garmin’s latest Forerunners deliver cutting-edge technology for dedicated runners, the price increase may give budget-conscious athletes reason to reconsider.
