Samsung is set to continue its design evolution for future smartwatches, following the significant shift introduced with the Galaxy Watch Ultra. The tech giant plans to adopt the Ultra’s bold design language across its upcoming smartwatch lineup. Meanwhile, fresh details have emerged regarding the processor powering the Galaxy Watch 8 series.
Contrary to expectations for a new chipset, the Galaxy Watch 8 and its Classic variant will use the existing Exynos W1000 processor. This revelation comes from a deep dive into the One UI 8 Watch firmware by Android Authority, which uncovered codenames—Fresh 8, Fresh 8 Small, and Wise 8—linked to the Galaxy Watch 8’s two sizes and the Classic model. These codenames correspond with the Exynos W1000 chip, identified by model number S5E5535 (part number SC55535AHA).
The Exynos W1000 debuted last year with the Galaxy Watch 7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra, showcasing advanced specifications for wearables. Manufactured using Samsung Foundry’s cutting-edge 3nm process, the chip features a five-core CPU setup, including one high-performance Cortex-A78 core and four energy-efficient Cortex-A55 cores, paired with an ARM Mali-G68 MP2 GPU. It also integrates 32GB of built-in storage to ensure swift performance. Notably, the Exynos W1000 delivers a 3.4-fold improvement in single-core CPU speed and a 3.7-fold increase in multi-core performance compared to its predecessor.
Samsung’s typical strategy of utilizing the same Exynos smartwatch processor across two to three product generations has been reaffirmed with this confirmation. Despite the Galaxy Watch 8 series’ design upgrades, the processor will remain consistent, focusing on refining user experience with proven hardware.
