Samsung is already looking ahead to its next major software update, One UI 8, even as the rollout of One UI 7 continues. While the tech giant has yet to officially confirm details, a series of leaks are offering an early glimpse into what users can expect from the Android 16-based interface. The latest of these reveals a new fitness-focused addition: the Samsung Running Coach.
According to a leak shared by X (formerly Twitter) user Gerwin van Giessen and first reported by SamMobile, One UI 8 will feature a Running Coach tool designed to evaluate a user’s current fitness level and guide them through a structured improvement plan. Though Samsung has not specified where this feature will reside, it is likely to be integrated into the Samsung Health app.
A key aspect of the feature appears to be a “Start on Watch” function, indicating that it will rely on data from a connected Galaxy Watch. The core fitness assessment involves a 12-minute run, during which users are prompted to cover as much distance as possible. Based on performance, users are assigned a fitness level ranging from 1 to 10. From there, the Running Coach will offer personalized training recommendations to gradually elevate the user’s performance.
The system is expected to leverage real-time heart rate data from the Galaxy Watch to tailor workout intensity, aiming to maximize efficiency while ensuring safety. While Samsung has yet to provide official details or a release timeline, the feature seems to be closely tied to wearable tech. However, there is cautious optimism that it will be compatible with older Galaxy Watch models running Wear OS, rather than being restricted to the newest hardware.
Although it remains unclear whether the feature will require the latest Galaxy smartphones, the integration of smartwatch sensors suggests that Running Coach could extend to a wide range of users looking to enhance their running regimen through smart, data-driven guidance.
