A trove of luxury watches seized from criminal enterprises will go under the hammer this week in a high-profile auction hosted by Wilsons Auctions. The sale features sought-after models from Rolex, Omega, and Cartier—all offered without reserve prices, presenting potential bargains for collectors and investors.
The auction house’s Asset Recovery Department collaborates with 40 law enforcement agencies across the UK and Ireland, along with international partners in 17 countries, to liquidate assets tied to illicit activities. Over the years, Wilsons has auctioned more than £150 million worth of confiscated luxury goods, ranging from jewellery to high-end handbags.
Highlights of the Luxury Watch Sale
Among the standout lots is an Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Ultra-Light, a cutting-edge timepiece with a 41mm titanium case and original documentation. Retailing for over £50,000, its unreserved status makes it a compelling opportunity for bidders.
Rolex enthusiasts will find several rare models, including a Rolex Rainbow Daytona in rose gold, featuring an aftermarket black gem-set dial and a rainbow bezel. Though sold without box or papers, its distinctive design is expected to attract strong interest.
Another showstopper is an 18ct Everose Gold Rolex Day-Date from 2015, adorned with a factory-set baguette diamond and ruby dial. Its rarity and craftsmanship make it a prized addition for serious collectors.
The sale also includes two of Rolex’s most iconic sports watches—the Submariner “Hulk” with its signature green bezel and dial, and the GMT-Master II “Batman”, distinguished by its black-and-blue bezel. Both models, dated 2018, are unreserved, heightening anticipation for competitive bidding.
A Lucrative Opportunity for Buyers
Allan McKenzie, Luxury Goods Auctioneer at Wilsons, emphasized the unique value of the sale. “Take the Omega, for instance—retailing at over £50,000, this could be a fantastic investment if the right bidders are present,” he said. “Unreserved auctions like this often create rare chances to acquire luxury pieces at exceptional prices.”
Wilsons Auctions holds the distinction of being the first UK auction house admitted as an Associate Member of the Anti-Counterfeiting Group, reinforcing its commitment to combating counterfeit trade. All items in the sale are guaranteed authentic, providing buyers with confidence.
The auction will proceed with buyer’s premiums ranging from 15% to 30%, depending on the lot. With no minimum bids required, the event promises fierce competition—and potential steals—for discerning watch enthusiasts.
